Is my citrine bracelet real, or heated amethyst?

First confirm it's quartz, not glass: look for tiny natural inclusions, no round bubbles, and a cool touch. Color alone can't prove whether citrine formed yellow underground or was heated from amethyst, because both are quartz colored by iron, and only a lab can confirm which.

Citrine and amethyst are the same mineral. Heat changes the state of the iron inside, which turns violet to yellow or orange. Nature does this slowly underground and a kiln does it in hours, so the result can look similar, and appearance becomes a clue rather than proof. Glass, on the other hand, is poured while molten, so it traps round bubbles and warms quickly in your hand.

1. Look for natural variation. Citrine is quartz, so beads usually differ a little in shade and clarity. A whole strand of identical, flawless beads is a warning sign.
2. Check for bubbles. Under a loupe or your phone's macro mode, round gas bubbles or swirl lines point to glass or resin, not quartz.
3. Feel the temperature and weight. Quartz draws heat from your skin and stays cool longer than glass or resin, and a strand feels solid in the hand.

Why does my citrine bracelet look more orange in photos?

Partly because of the cord. Our citrine beads are very clear, so the red or orange-red stringing cord shows through each bead and warms its tone, especially when light comes from behind. Seen with light falling on the surface, the same beads look closer to honey-yellow, with deeper amber beads between.

Light that passes through a clear bead picks up the color of whatever is inside it, which here is the cord. Backlit product shots push more light through the bead, so the cord's red adds to the citrine's own color. That's why we show every strand in real studio photos and video, not just one flattering angle.

Do you say whether your citrine was heated?

We describe our citrine only by what you can see in the real photos and video: bead size, color range, clarity and accents. Skip sun cleansing. Long, strong sunlight can slowly fade citrine's yellow, and heat and sun also age the stretch cord. Some guides call citrine self-cleansing; if you like a ritual anyway, moonlight, sound, smoke or a selenite plate carry the same intention with no risk to the color.

Citrine's color comes from iron in the quartz, and long exposure to strong sunlight can gradually shift it toward colorless; the change doesn't reverse. Normal outdoor wear is fine, and the risk comes from hours on a sunny windowsill. Elastic cord also dries out and loosens with heat, so a shady drawer is kinder to the whole bracelet.
