Glass "opalite" glows evenly from every angle, looks perfectly clean and often shows bubbles. Real beads also vary slightly.

1. Watch the flash move. Real moonstone's blue sheen (called adularescence) floats across the bead as you tilt it, then fades at other angles.

Moonstone is softer than quartz, at about 6 on the Mohs scale, so avoid knocks, store it alone in its pouch, keep it away from perfume, lotion, chlorine and heat, and take it off before showering, swimming, exercising and sleeping.
