Key takeaways

  • Brief water is usually fine for cleaning; prolonged soaking is not.
  • Wipe dry after any splash; stretch cord prefers dry care.
  • Skip ultrasonic cleaners, salt water, chlorine, perfume and lotion on the beads.
  • Blue can fade in long, strong sun and heat.
  • Our pieces: larimar bracelets 12.1mm, 13.2mm and 14.8mm, and a 25×18.9mm teardrop pendant. Every bead checked by eye · real photos · ships from Jiangsu, China.

Can larimar get wet?

Short answer: a little water for cleaning is usually fine; leaving it wet is not.

Larimar is a sky-to-sea blue stone with white, wave-like patterns. Mineralogically it is a copper-bearing variety of pectolite, a hydrated calcium sodium silicate. That hydrated structure, plus its fairly soft hardness (about Mohs 4.5 to 5), is why care is gentle: brief contact with clean water to rinse dust or skin oils is normally fine if you dry the beads right away. Do not leave a bracelet soaking in a bowl, under running water for a long time, or in the shower, pool or ocean.

For everyday wear, the simplest habit matches what we write on our product pages: wipe it with a soft dry cloth, and store it on its own in its pouch.

Water, cleaning and what to avoid

Situation OK? Why
Quick rinse or damp soft cloth, then dry Usually yes Removes dust and oils without a long soak
Soft dry cloth after wearing Best daily habit Protects the blue and the stretch cord
Long soak, bowl of water, overnight No Soft stone; cord stays wet and weakens
Shower, bath, pool, sea No Soap, chlorine and salt are harsh
Ultrasonic or steam cleaner No Too aggressive for a soft gem
Perfume, lotion, cleaners on the beads No Chemicals can dull the surface
Long, strong sun or heat No Larimar's blue is light-sensitive and can fade

How to clean gently. If beads look dull, rinse them quickly under lukewarm water or wipe with a barely damp soft cloth, then dry thoroughly with a second dry cloth. Do not use soap unless you must, and rinse it off completely. Skip ultrasonic machines and commercial jewelry dips.

Energy cleansing without water. Cleanse with moonlight (out of direct sun) or a minute of sound, rather than sunlight. Step-by-step rituals: How to Cleanse a Crystal Bracelet.

Traditional meaning (reminder, not medical)

Known as the heart of the ocean, larimar stands for calm and kind connection. Care keeps the stone looking like the sea; meaning is tradition, not a health claim.

Energy and meaning. In crystal tradition, larimar's sea blue is linked with the throat and heart chakras. Known as the heart of the ocean, it stands for a calm mind, easier, kinder communication, a clearer intuition, and deeper love and connection with the people close to you.
