What is Arusha sunstone?

Arusha sunstone is a feldspar. The sparkle, called aventurescence, comes from thin mineral plates inside the stone that catch the light at different depths. That's why the glitter looks deep and soft rather than sitting on the surface. Each bead's color and amount of sparkle differ, so no two strands look the same.

Tilt a bead under one light. In natural Arusha sunstone the sparkle comes from tiny flakes at different depths, so it flickers softly and changes from bead to bead, and the orange-red color is a little uneven. Man-made glitter glass shows identical sparkles evenly spread.

Care

Sunstone is a feldspar, a little softer than quartz and able to split along its grain, so protect it from hard knocks. Cleanse it with moonlight or sound, wipe it with a soft dry cloth, store it on its own in its pouch, and keep it away from perfume, lotion and chlorine. Take it off for sports and heavy work, and skip ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
