Dye can only enter a stone through openings, so it collects where a drill hole or crack opened the bead. Glass is poured while molten, so trapped air becomes perfectly round bubbles and the "fibres" never cross in three dimensions.

1. Find the fibres, then confirm they're inside. Hold a bead up to the light and tilt it slowly. Real fibres sit at different depths and cross in three dimensions. Painted or printed lines stay flat on the surface.
