Natural sugilite is opaque to slightly translucent, with uneven purple tones, darker veins or patches and some matrix. Dyed stone shows color pooling at drill holes or cracks. Glass or resin looks too even, feels light or warms quickly, or has bubbles. Sugilite is relatively rare, so a very cheap price is a warning sign.

2. Check the drill holes. A darker ring or colored lines along cracks point to dye.
3. Feel it. Natural stone is solid and cool at first; glass and resin can feel light or warm fast.
