Blood amber is amber with a deep cherry-red glow. Indoors little light passes through and the red can look almost dark; when the bead is backlit, light travels through it and the cherry red shows. Amber is organic, resin buried and hardened over millions of years, so it is far less dense than quartz and feels warm on the skin.

Beeswax amber (蜜蜡) is opaque amber: the same fossil resin family, but full of tiny bubbles and flow lines that make it look honey-soft rather than glassy. Two classic looks are known in Chinese as 鸡油黄, a rich butter yellow, and 白花蜜, a creamy honey white with soft flowing patterns. Our strand mixes both.
