1. Expect a soft, natural pink. Real rose quartz is gentle pink, often a little milky or cloudy. Very bright, candy-pink color that's identical in every bead is a warning sign.
2. Look for the starry shimmer. Under a direct light, star rose quartz can show a soft, starry glow inside the bead. It's subtle and moves as you tilt the bead.
3. Check the drill holes. Dye collects where it can soak in. Darker color rings around the drill holes or colored lines along cracks usually mean dyed stone.
4. Watch for glass clues. Perfectly round bubbles, swirl lines or a too-perfect, glassy look can point to glass.
